Feeling sorry for yourself is no fun )

Friday morning I woke up and felt good so I got my act together and headed for 'home.' I got there around 12:30 and helped mom with the groceries. They left Saturday for the 1000 Islands so they spent most of Friday packing the van.

Saturday we drove to Rochester )

Ron was just hanging up a sign pointing over the hill when we got there... apparently the shelters are no longer first-come-first serve and someone had reserved it. We set up by the pond at the edge of the trees.

The picnic was fun )
It was good to see Ron and John... and Diane came by! I didn't really have any good Talks with anybody though... just a few lines of catch-up. That's ok... group situations are generally like that for me.

I drew a smiley face on Jeremy's middle finger... and he kept showing it to everyone.

About 4:30-5 it started to pour so everyone packed up and left. Silly me only brought one pair of long pants (I keep forgetting that it's not as hot up North as it is down here!) and they were soaked. Luckily it wasn't cold.

On the way to Dave's roommate's place after the picnic I IMed Wes* and he actually had time to do something! We figured out that I hadn't actually seen him in person since 2001 sometime. Guys, tell your girlfriends that I'm scared of them... so it isn't likely I'll try to steal you from them. But anyway... It was great to see him again, and I always like visiting the beach. I was surprised that Lake Ontario is colder than the Atlantic... I'd forgotten it never gets very warm.

Kite stuff that belongs in the other journal )

We left the kite shop around 10ish for the drive back to Rochester. This wasn't a bad drive, about 80 miles on 18 and the Ontario Parkway. It's nice out there with the lake right next to the road. A lot of farms and fruit growers. As we were passing Hamlin Beach I realized 'hey, we could go to Seabreeze and see George!'

I love George! )

I hadn't planned to stay at Seabreeze that long, but how could I turn down a ride on Jack Rabbit? Dave and I rode the new coaster (Whirlwind?) and then the Bobsleds that George Long built in the 60s or 70s (that's George's grandfather). The Bobsleds now have a new control system and the kid who operates it doesn't have to drag the empty car from the end to the start himself now. Then we took 2 rides on Jack Rabbit, once in the front, once in the back. Then I showed Dave the water park, and the dancing fountain was working nicely (they had software issues with that when I was working there). I couldn't leave without some Dippin Dots, so while we ate those we walked through the carousel building and looked at the organ and the historic pictures on the wall.

I wish I could figure out a way for them to hire me. :) But they can't really afford an engineer.

After leaving Seabreeze we hopped on 590-490 and headed back to Binghamton. Got there around 4 and I got to visit with Gram and Gramps for a bit before heading back to Jersey.

It was a nice weekend. :)
