I had a feeling that driving to Jack's Baothouse would be kind of like typing that linked URL on a cellphone (trial and error and patience!). It wasn't nerve wracking, but it was a bit mind-boggling.
Lessons Learned
Tomorrow I get to run to Annapolis and shuttle a boat or two back. Not sure I can reach the Corona alone.
Lessons Learned
- K St, as we knew, is at water level. The Whitehurst Freeway goes overtop of it, about 3 stories up. Being on the Whitehurst Freeway doesn't result in arriving at K St. Not sure why both Google maps and Yahoo maps think otherwise.
- Frank, the owner of Jack's would rather receive a relay call than use email. I called today on my way home from work, deciding to try once more before committing to a summer of $20 a time launch fees at Pier 7 in Annapolis. I typed my 5 sentences about why I was calling and let the relay oper say all of it up front. He had 1 spot that just opened up! And it'll hold 2 boats! W00t!
- One is more likely to paddle if one's kayak is nearer to home... Which means I need to figure out how to Get there more efficiently.
- You can't drive on Rotary Rd. This is the former loop around the Pentagon.
- When returning from Georgetown, 50 W goes along the river and doesn't really go West until it reaches the Pentagon. 66 W however goes to Rosslyn.
- Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown goes down to K St which is also labeled Water St, but the maps don't find it. Maybe this map would work... nope, it's exactly the same. Ah here we go. Across the Key Bridge and down M St to Wisconsin Ave. I was hoping to avoid having to go on M St in Georgetown though. Hmm... also this from Jack's website: "Alternately, from northern VA take US-50 to I-66. After crossing the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Bridge, take the E Street/(I-66 E) ramp towards Kennedy Center/Whitehurst Fwy. Merge onto Potomac River Fwy N. Take the US-29 South exit towards the Whitehurst Fwy. Continue on US-29/K Street by going down under the Whitehurst Fwy to the left. Follow K Street to the end, where you will see the Jack's Boathouse sign on the left."
